Head Start is a free program that offers social, emotional and intellectual growth to prepare children for success in life.

Welcome to the Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron & Richland Counties, Inc. Head Start Program page. 

 

HEAD START is a free pre-school program that serves families with children between the ages of three and five. Eligibility for the program is based on income and other federal and state guidelines and policies.

​

CACEHR Head Start promotes the school readiness of children ages three through five and children with disabilities.CACEHR Head Start provides services to families and children in the following areas:

​

  • Education/Literacy

  • Health/ Nutrition 

  • Mental Health 

  • Disabilities/ Suspected Disabilities

  • Family Services

  • Transportation 

  • Parent Involvement

  • Special Initiatives: Healthy Marriage & Male Involvement 

 

Head Start Parents are encouraged to volunteer. They serve in a variety of positions including classroom, kitchen, and office aides. Parents are also actively involved as members of Parent Center Committees and Policy Council Representatives. 

 

SERVICES ARE FREE:

CACEHR HEAD START is funded by the U.S.Department of Health & Human Services, the Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services, the Ohio Department of Education; and the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Ohio Department of Education Child Nutrition Services Division.

ECE PROGRAM:

​

Provides high quality extended early learning experience for age-eligible children to prepare for success in kindergarten.

Half-Day Program 

  • Children attend a half-day session which is 3-1/2 hours long. Sessions are in the morning or afternoon.

  • Classes are four days each week (Monday~Thursday) September through May.

  • Children attending morning sessions receive a USDA approved breakfast and lunch.

  • Children attending afternoon sessions receive a USDA approved lunch and snack. 

 

Full-Day Program

  • Children attend all-day 

  • Classes are five days a week September~ May.

  • Children receive a USDA approved breakfast, lunch, and snack.

  • Parents/ Guardians of children enrolled in the full-day program may need to meet additional criteria established by the local Department of Jobs & Family Services.

  • Transportation is only provided for children who receive disability services.

 

All Children 

  • Must meet income guidelines. 

  • Must obtain physical and dental exams upon enrollment.

  • Will receive nutritional assessments, developmental, speech, hearing, and vision screenings. 

  • Must complete any necessary follow-up based on the screening results.
